Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution will not be increasing customers’ bills to pay any of the costs associated with the settlement of a class action lawsuit dealing with interest charged on overdue customer accounts.
The agency that regulates the prices utilities charge, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB), has since ruled that electricity distributors can recover these costs by adding a levy on all customers’ bills. It was expected that the costs would be included in amounts customers were billed, depending on the utility, for one to two years.
Newmarket-Tay Power Distribution has decided not to include these costs in customers’ bills.
