Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB)

Under a provincial regulation for Energy and Water Reporting and Benchmarking (EWRB), large building owners are required to report their energy and water consumption to the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines (ENDM) on an annual basis. The EWRB regulation is designed to help you make informed decisions about improving your building’s energy and water efficiency. As the annually-reported results are reviewed over time, you will see how a particular building compares to itself over previous years and tangible effects in energy, water and greenhouse gas reductions.

If you are the owner of a commercial, industrial or multi-residential property that is larger than 50,000 square feet, you are now required to report your property’s electricity and water usage annually by July 1.

Requesting your data from NT Power

Under the EWRB regulation, local distribution companies are required to make aggregated electricity and water consumption information available to building owners upon request, so that they can report their data to the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines (ENDM) annually by July 1st.

To assist building owners, NT Power has created a process for EWRB requests, as outlined below. If you have any questions before filling out and submitting the form, please contact us. Questions about reporting, benchmarking or the regulation, please contact the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines (ENDM) by phone at 1-844-274-0689 or email to Click here to show mail address

Please note, it may take up to six weeks to process requests. To ensure building owners have sufficient time to gather and prepare their data for reporting prior to the July 1st deadline, we encourage building owners to request their data by May 15th every year. This will allow sufficient time to process the many requests received. Due to the large volume of requests we expect to receive, requests received after May 15th may not be processed in time for the July 1st deadline.

Step 1: Gather the Necessary Information

Before we can provide the energy consumption data for your building, we will need the following information:

Please complete the EWRB Request Form to request the annual electricity and water consumption data for your property from NT Power.

  • Ontario EWRB ID — a unique number provided by the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines (ENDM) to large building owners. If you do not have an EWRB number, you can get one from the Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines (ENDM) by emailing Click here to show mail address or calling 1-844-274-0689.
  • The calendar year(s) of data being requested
  • At least one account number for each address that is part of the property.

If you are a property manager, energy consultant or other third-party requesting energy consumption data on behalf of a property owner, the owner must complete and sign the authorization in Section A of the EWRB Data Request Form in order to authorize NT Power to release the data to you. NT Power cannot process a request from a third party if the section isn’t completed and signed.

Step 2: Submit EWRB Data Request Form

Please use the below webform to submit the completed request form

Step 3: Review Process

NT Power may need to follow up with a building owner, in the event that any information in the request form is unclear or missing. In addition, NT Power may require some time to validate third-party representatives who request information on behalf of a building owner.

Step 4: Data Submission

Once we have received, reviewed and verified your information, we will process your request and send you the yearly aggregated electricity and water consumption data for your property as quickly as possible.
